Guides for parents
What Is Transitional Kindergarten (TK)?
Transitional kindergarten, usually called TK, is a year of school for four-year-olds that comes before kindergarten and moves at a gentler pace. Other places call it pre-K, junior kindergarten or reception.
A Relaxed TK Readiness Checklist for Parents
This is a checklist to notice where your child is, not a test to pass. Every child grows at their own pace, and teachers expect a wide range in TK.
Pencil Grip and Fine Motor Skills for Four-Year-Olds
Handwriting is built on small hand muscles, finger control, and hand-eye coordination. Most of that is built through play, long before a pencil is involved.
What your child will practice
Early math
Counting, comparing, shapes, and sizes.
Letters and writing
Letter names, sounds, tracing, and writing a name.
Fine motor
Pencil grip, tracing, and scissor skills.
Thinking skills
Patterns, sorting, and noticing what is different.
A small, growing library
This site is intentionally small. Each worksheet is made to be useful, short, and easy to print. More weeks of the plan are on the way; you can see what is coming on the weekly plan.
