A note for parents
Hearing the first sound in a word is a step toward reading. Say each word slowly and stretch the first sound, like "d-d-duck". This sheet also reviews earlier letters. It takes about 10 minutes.
How to help
- Say the word and stretch the first sound.
- Ask what other words start with the same sound.
- If your child is unsure, name the picture for them and ask again.
Choose "Actual size" or "100%" when printing. A4 is 210 x 297 mm; US Letter is 8.5 x 11 in. The black-and-white version uses less ink.
